Care Instructions

Jewelry care

Gold-filled and vermeil products are a great, quality alternative to the much more expensive solid karat gold. It's high in quality & with proper care and storage, you will have affordable jewelry that lasts. It’s the economical way to enjoy the luster of gold without the big price tag.

Gold filled is an actual layer of gold pressure bonded to another metal such as brass. It’s not to be confused with gold plating as filled literally has 100% more gold than gold plating. Gold filled is much more valuable and tarnish resistant if taken care properly. Most people who can wear gold can wear gold filled without worries of any allergic reaction to the jewelry. Solid gold is of course an exquisite piece of jewelry, but gold filled is an amazing (& affordable!), quality alternative.

To make it last long, it's very important that you keep it dry (never bathe or spray perfume on your jewelry… chemical reactions with chlorine and other elements such as perspiration can lead to tarnishing). With gold filled metals or any gold plated metals humidity is the enemy, if possible try to seal and store in the air-tight plastic baggie included with your purchase (never keep your jewelry in the bathroom). If you're the girl who forgets to take off her makeup before bedtime, not to mention your necklace and despite your love of Kei Jewelry, swims in your jewels!... over time, the gold plating will start to wear. This is the normal wear and tear process and is not a result of a manufacturing defect.

Extra tips to make it last

  • Keep it dry! Apply makeup, hairspray or any type of lotion before putting on your jewelry, they may contain harsh chemicals that may damage your jewelry overtime.

  • For extra care, after each wear gently wipe each piece of jewelry clean of make up and skin oils with a jewelry polishing cloth.

  • Store jewelry separately so it doesn't scratch other jewelry... the best way is to seal and store in an air-tight plastic baggie to prevent tarnishing. We include one with all our chain necklaces.

  • Never use abrasive chemicals or products to clean your jewelry. Any alcohol based products can tarnish gold and silver plating irreperably.

  • Always last on, first off.
